Bar Brief: Valentine's Day
We know you've all been cooped up these last few days due to Snowmageddon/Snowpocalpyse/SnOwMG, but don't fret, we're here to provide you with some much-needed humor. We promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. As future members of the DC Lawyers Assistance Program, we are proud to present a bi-weekly run-down of DC hotspots. Now that the new semester is underway, we are well aware that you are too busy to even attempt to plan your own social life. Luckily for you, we're here to serve as your personal party planners. This week we're doing a special Valentine's Day Bar Brief- a list of 5 locations to take your significant other for a romantic drink or two (or seven, if it's that kind of date).
Before getting into this review, we'd like to remind you that if you know of any summer jobs, please send them our way, especially if they pay. They don't even need to be legal jobs, or legal, for that matter. We hear Camelot has an excellent summer "associate" program.
Valentine's Day
Case: Review of P.O.V., Mie N Yu, Science Club, Dan's, and Proof Wine Bar. We've been to each of these places (not for Valentine's Day), so we speak from experience when we say these locations will get your loins fired up.
Facts:
P.O.V.: High atop the W Hotel in downtown DC, this bar offers spectacular views of the entire city, and some delicious (albeit expensive) beverages. If you're looking to splurge, take your date here. But beware, reservations are a must if you want to sit down, but that being said, you won't be doing much sitting once you see the snow covered monuments out the windows. If you're looking to really impress your date, call ahead, reserve a table and a bottle of bubbly, and feast on some gourmet tapas and other fine fare. Romance rating: <3 <3 <3 <3
Mie N Yu: This Polynesian-themed bar, located on M Street in Georgetown, is the perfect place for an intimate dinner or late night cocktails. Featuring cabana style seating, and an exotic selection of drinks, this place is perfect for an adventurous significant other (or a date who wishes he/she was spending the holiday weekend in the tropics). Best of all, you never have to part from your date because even the unisex bathrooms promote togetherness. Make sure to order their French Kiss martini, which will loosen you up before your evening of Kama Sutra inspired activity. Romance rating: <3 <3 <3
Science Club: Live at the Aston? Or elsewhere in Foggy Bottom/Dupont? Good news, you don't have to travel far for a romantic locale to bring your schnookums. This bar occupies 3 stories in a townhouse, just a few blocks from school. Excellent for the nerdy types, and known for their wide variety of non-American beer, this is a super spot for those who would rather not change out of their Converse and jeans. Head here for an early Valentine's Day celebration, cause it's not open on Sundays. And for those of you looking to save a buck or two, get there before 8 and enjoy cheap beer and delicious vegetarian cuisine. Romance rating: <3 <3
Proof Wine Bar: Got a wino on your hands? Located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of DC, this chic wine bar/restaurant is the perfect romantic hotspot for wine connoisseurs with a discerning palette. If you have a few bucks to blow, order the 1947 Chateau Cheval Blanc for a mere $10,500. If that can't get you laid, we don't what will. Romance Rating: <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Dan's: Did you and your significant other meet playing Beirut, flip cup, or at the 1L finals party? If so, then this is the perfect place for your Valentine's Day date. If you're looking to get schwasted this V-Day, look no further than Dan's Café in good ole' Adams Morgan. What says romance better than squeeze bottles full of booze, bathrooms with doors that don't close, and a 75-year-old bouncer? And, if the date is going well, you can always extend it with a trip to Amsterdam Falafel or Jumbo Slice. If the date goes sour, you can drown away your sorrows on the cheap. Romance Rating: <3
Issue: By the time you read this article, V-Day will be a mere 4 days away. We can't guarantee that any of these places will have space for you and your date (except Dan's), so "nail down" your lady/man and call for reservations ASAP.
Holding: We hope you are all able to add a member to your 1-man wolfpack this Valentine's Day.
Rule: Money can't always buy you love, but for poor law school students living on loans, it certainly helps.
